Addressed the "Kshitij" Symposium in I.I.T. Karagpur on "Cyber Laws and Digital Evidence" on Sunday 29 January 2012.

I read with interest an interview given by Gulshan Rai Head of the elite Indian Computer Emergency Response Team in the e-magazine "CCC News" last week, in which he confesses certain things like

"We are not utilising the discretionary powers..." in one place and in another place he says "We are not regulating" the internet traffic at all.

These are the areas on which I was highly intrigued and felt very uncomfortable. Prima facie, it looks like CERT In only a referral agency though the rules and other notifications of the government seem to vest the powers of 'monitoring, intercepting and blocking' with National Nodal Agency which is CERT In. We had always thought that CERT In DOES have the powers to monitor, intercept and block websites. If not so, what does the Head of CERT In mean when he says "We are not using the discretionary powers" and again when he says "We are not regulating". Is it not the duty to a police man or a regulator to say that he is regulating. Can RBI say that "we are not regulating and we are giving independence to all banks" Can TRAI say that "We are not regulating the capital market". All these are points to ponder

Addressed the Workshop for Media organised by Cyber Society of India on 15 Oct, inaugurated by Dr Santhosh Babu, I.T. Secretary to the Govt of Tamil Nadu. Participated in the Panel Discussion and answered the journalists' queries on Cyber Laws, Adequacy of Regulatory Guidelines, Banks' Level of Compliance with regulatory supervision in India etc.

Participated in the Training Programme organised by Madras University Dept of Criminology and SOFADS on "Cyber Law, Digital Forensics" on 15 Oct and 16th Oct.

Delivered a lecture on "Cyber Security and I.T. Laws in India" at SRM University near Chennai on 28 Sept in a national seminar organised by the Computer Science Dept of SRM.

Delivered a lecture on "Cyber Crimes and I.T. Legislations in India" in VLB Janaki Ammal College, Coimbatore on 29 Sept in a Seminar on "Cyber Crimes and Information Security" organised by the college on 29 and 30 and inaugurated by the Commissioner of Police, Coimbatore.

As Board of Studies member of IGNOU for its M Tech Course on Cyber Security in JSS College, Bengaluru, addressed the faculty members of the college on sensitizing them on the syllabus contents on two papers viz (i) Security Technologies and  (ii) "Cyber Evidence and I.T. Act" during on August 26.

Elected as Vice President of Cyber Society of India for the term 2011-13, in the elections held at CySI on 4 Sept 2011.

Was part of the faculty team to handle classes for the police officers of the northern districts of Tamil Nadu (Kancheepuram, Chengalpattu, Cuddalore, Villupuram, Trivellore and Vellore)  organised by the IG Northern Range Tamil Nadu in St Thomas Mount during 11 Sept to 13 Sept on topics like "Cyber Crime Scenario in Internet Banking" and "I.T. Act and other legislations on Cyber Crimes".  The event was very well reported in the Press with Times of India, Dinamalar carrying news stories and Dinamani (12 Sept) carrying a photograph.

Addressed police officials in T.N. Police Academy, Vandalur on 26-5-11 on "I.T. Legislations in India". 

Addressed managers of co-oerative banks in Natesan Institute on Co-oerative Management Anna Nagar on "Cyber Crimes, Cyber Legislations and I.T. Acts in India"on 27-5-2011.

Addressed the officials of UCO Bank in a seminar organised by UCO Bank Officers' Association in Hotel Royal Regency on 9-8-11 on the topics "Cyber Crimes in Banks and the significance of I.T. Act". 

Oragnised a 1-day workshop on "Information (in)security in a digital world" in Marudhar Kesari Jain College, Vaniyambadi and addressed the students on Data Security, on 21 Sept 2011.

Addressed PG students in IT Dept in SRM University on "Cyber Crimes and IT Act" on 28 Sep 11.

Addressed students in a State Level Seminar in VLB Janaki Ammal College of Engg Coimbatore on "Legislative Arms in Cyber World and Digital Evidence" on 29 Sept 11.

Organised a workshop exclusively for journalists and reports at Press Club on Cyber Security issues and addressed them on "Cyber Crimes and I.T. Act" on 15 Oct 11.

Addressed police officials in T.N. Police Academy on "I.T. Act and Cyber Crimes" on 10 Oct 2011.
